Prevent Data Loss by setting up a Backup Regime
Aside from teaching you how to make the most of your computer...
I can also show you how to prevent data loss through catastrophic hardware failure, fire, flood, theft or your son putting salami in the DVD drive, although that one could technically be filed into the Fire-Category, I suppose.
Seriously though, it's a fact that the majority of home users and small businesses do not back up their essential files on a regular basis, and that, as the age of the average computer increases, more and more are experiencing catastrophic data loss through their machines dying of old age. |

Ageing Computers aren't the only causes of data loss.
But it's not just old age which can cause your computer to fail. I've been living in the Larnaca region since 2005, and I'm currently on my fourth computer. Admittedly, as part of my job I do tend to run very fast machines which tend to be a little more high-strung and vulnerable than the normal computer, but this is Cyprus. And believe me when I say that the heat and dust on this island are hard on all computers, not just the fast, edgy ones.
This summer alone [2009] I came across a surprisingly large number of machines which have succumbed to the heat and dust, quite few of them suddenly, and without any prior warning signs to alert their owners that something was wrong.
So what can you do to prevent your valuable data from getting lost?
Regular backups help, although depending on how these are carried out and what's done with the actual backups themselves, these are of little help, depending on what actually happens to the files in the computer they were backed up from. Furthermore, depending on what exactly your computer is used for should determine the frequency your files are backed up at.
For instance, if you work at your machine daily, and receive important files and emails, but your efforts to prevent data loss amount to running Windows' own backup system once a month, you're asking for trouble of the highest degree.
Is it really worth taking the chance?
I can advise you on which backup system is right for you or your company, and train you or your staff to implement it, and carry it out step-by-step. If you're looking for a full-service backup, I can also visit your home or offices to carry out these vital backups on a regular basis. Whatever the case may be, computers have become too important a tool, and files too valuable to take chances with.
Business owners can no longer afford to risk losing important data, since its loss could potentially leave their entire company high and dry. By the same token, many home users I've spoken to have lamented the loss of family photos more than anythng else, so while the files in question may not be of any actual financial or commercial value, they nevertheless carry an awful lot of sentimental value.
