Reconnecting your Computer to Cytanet Broadband

So... once again, Cytanet's broadband has kicked you out

"Now what?"

Step 1
Go and make a cup of tea, get a beer or another drink of your choice. This may take a little while, since it could be one of a number of things.

Got your drink? Excellent! Now switch everything off.

I should really have told you to switch off your computer and unplug your broadband modem before you went.

But never mind, eh? Do that now and enjoy your tea or whatever you're drinking while you're waiting. Be sure that every piece of equipment is fully switched off.

Now wait... preferably for at least five minutes.

Now switch everything back on in the following order:

  1. Broadband Modem
(The box which connects to the phone socket)
  2. Router
(You may not have one of these. If you do, it's the box between the modem & computer. If there's no box between the modem and the computer, don't worry about it)
  3. Computer

Wait for about 30 seconds between switching each piece of equipment on. When your computer has finally started up and all the lights on the broadband modem have gone green, open Internet Explorer, FireFox, Google Chrome or whatever program you use to surf the web.

While I'm about it... If you're a bit tired of surfing the web with Internet Explorer and all its little 'quirks', you might want to give Google Chrome a try. It's a relatively new program, but it's well worthwhile. Click here to find out more...

Now, depending on what sort of a day Cyta are having, you might actually be connected to the interweb at this stage. But then again, probably not...

If you're not connected yet, type 'www.i-choice.com.cy' into your browser's address bar.
What do you mean: "What's an address bar?"
The address bar is the one at the top for web addresses, shown in the picture below. If the picture's a bit small, click on it for an enlarged view.

With any luck, you should now be looking at the I-Choice home page. If you are, you need to select your provider from the list on the left by clicking on it. Unless you've been here a while, and have changed internet service providers, this will probably be CytaNet. Once again, if the image below is a bit small, click on it for a larger view.

Once you've clicked on your provider, it will ask you for your username and password.
You have made a note of it, right? If not, you'll need to phone support and convince them that you're really you, which can be a bit of a chore sometimes.
Now put your username and password in the required fields and click 'Go'.

And Voila... you're connected!

Unless of course Cyta's still playing up, which has been known to happen more than once in the past. In fact, there's a very good chance you never made it as far as the I-Choice home page, and you haven't been given the chance to even get as far as selecting your provider, never mind input your password.

In these cases, you need to use Cyta's 'Last-Ditch, Emergency, It's all gone bloody wrong!' IP address. I could go into a lengthy explanation about what exactly an IP address is, but I don't want to bore you to death.

In any case, what you need to do is go back to Internet Explorer's (or FireFox's, Chrome's or whatever else you're using) address bar and type in the following:

http://192.168.5.2

Now press enter and you should be taken straight to a log-in page where you can put in your username and password. If nothing else works, this should do the trick in upwards of 90% of cases.

However, if you're still without an internet connection after following the above steps, then you need to get another drink, because you'll have to phone Cyta support (8000 80 80) and this may take some time.

“Due to increased demand, your wait will be approximately 30 minutes.”

Good luck!
